LEVEL 1 MECHANICS - TRANSPORT MAINTENANCE

 

The Mechanics Transport Maintenance course involves three separate qualifications which offer a progression within the qualification.

 

This course includes the following qualifications:

Title: IMI Level 1 Award in Transport Maintenance

QAN Number: 601/8753/0 

Title: IMI Level 1 Certificate in Transport Maintenance

QAN Number: 601/8754/2 

Title: IMI Level 1 Diploma in Transport Maintenance

QAN Number: 601/8756/6 

 

What you will do on the course

This course covers the basic technical needs for today’s motor vehicle repair industry. It provides essential knowledge for service technicians working light vehicles (cars and vans) in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance depots.

 

Here are some of the things you will be doing:

– Vehicle construction and routine maintenance

– Operating principles of engines, tyres, brakes, steering and suspension                  systems

– Operating principles and maintenance of transmission systems and electrical /    electronic systems

– Understanding of health and safety in the workplace

 

How you will be assessed

Students will be internally assessed on this course, this will include carrying out practical tasks in a motor vehicle workshop and written tasks, along with IMI Awards set ‘online’ multiple-choice testing.

 

Who is the course suitable for?

This course is suitable for 14-16 year olds who wish to pursue a career in the Vehicle Maintenance and Repair sector.

LEVEL 2

MOTOR VEHICLE STUDIES

 

The Level 2 Motor Vehicle Studies course involves the completion of the following qualification:

 

Title: ABC Level 2 Award in Motor Vehicle Studies

QAN Number: 600/2996/1

Credit Value: 10 (1 year programme)

Title: ABC Level 2 Certificate in Motor Vehicle Studies

QAN Number: 600/2966/3

Credit Value: 32 (2 year programme)

There are also two choices in pathway our learners can take, the motor vehicle pathway or the motorcycle pathway.

 

What you will do on the course

This course provides learners with the opportunity to study both the theory and practical aspects of a range of routine vehicle or motorcycle inspection, fitting and maintenance procedures.

Here are some of the things you will be doing:

– Inspecting engine systems

– Repairing and replacing standard and high performance tyres

– Inspecting and replacing exhaust components, suspension dampers and springs and vehicle batteries and braking systems

– Skills in Health & Safety

– Skills in removing and replacing motor cycle chassis, units and components

– Knowledge of motorcycle preparation and inspection 

How you will be assessed

Students will be internally assessed on this course through building up a portfolio of learning and practical tasks.

This course is suited for anyone who has an interest or would consider a career in the Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance sector.
