CHILD DEVELOPMENT
“Discover How Children Grow, Learn, and Develop – Your First Step into a Rewarding Childcare Career.”
BTEC Level 1/Level 2 Tech Award in Child Development603/1914/8
The BTEC Level 1 & Level 2 Award in Child Development provides learners with the knowledge and understanding needed to explore how children grow, learn, and develop. The course examines the key stages of child development, the factors that influence growth, and how play and learning activities support children’s progress. It combines practical learning with theoretical knowledge to prepare learners for further study or careers in childcare.
Content
Learners will study three main areas: Children’s Growth and Development, Learning Through Play, and Supporting Children to Play, Learn, and Develop. You will explore the differences between growth and development, learn how children progress from birth to five years old, and understand the various factors that influence development.
The course also includes practical activities that demonstrate how to support children’s learning and development through play.
Assessment
Assessment combines internal coursework and an external exam. The Child’s Growth and Development and Learning Through Play components are assessed through internal assignments, while Supporting Children to Play, Learn, and Develop is assessed via a two-hour external examination. This ensures learners can apply both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
This course is ideal for learners with an interest in childcare or those considering a career in the sector. It provides foundational knowledge and skills that complement other Key Stage 4 studies and support progression to further education, apprenticeships, or employment in childcare.
Progression opportunities
Upon completion, learners can progress to further study such as Level 3 Childcare qualifications, relevant apprenticeships, or entry-level employment roles within the childcare sector. This course provides a strong foundation for careers in early years education, nursery work, and support roles in childcare settings.
This qualification equips learners with the skills to pursue careers such as a Nursery Practitioner, Early Years Educator, Teaching Assistant, Childcare Assistant, or Playworker. With further study, learners can progress to become Qualified Early Years Teachers, Nursery Managers, or other professional roles in childcare and education.
